Tips

Get the best result

  • Lower the resolution. A 1080p video shown on a phone looks the same at 720p, and the file is much smaller.
  • Remove audio from clips that don't need sound.
  • Use MP4 for email, chat and most websites. Use WebM for web pages when you want the smallest file.
  • Short clips compress best. For a long video, trim it first if you can.

Is this video compressor really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark, no daily limit and no ads around the tool.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is compressed inside your browser, on your own computer or phone. The file never leaves your device, so it's private and there's no upload wait.

How do I compress a video to under 25 MB?

Drop your video in, choose Target, tap 25 MB and press Compress. The tool picks the bitrate, and if the video is long it lowers the resolution so the result fits. It also checks the result and tries again if it's a little over.

Will I lose quality?

Some, because compression always removes detail. High keeps it close to the original. Medium is a good everyday choice. Low gives the smallest file and is fine for sharing on a phone.

Which formats can I upload and download?

You can upload the common video files your browser can read, such as MP4, MOV and WebM, and often MKV. The compressed file is saved as MP4 (H.264) or WebM (VP9).

Why does it say my browser isn't supported?

The tool uses your browser's built-in video encoder. It works in current Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. Update your browser, or try Chrome or Edge.

How long does it take?

It depends on your device and the video. A short phone clip is usually quick. A long 4K video can take several minutes, because your computer does the work. Keep the tab open until it finishes.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no limit set by us, because nothing is uploaded. Very large files, over about 2 GB, can run out of your browser's memory. We warn you above 500 MB.

Can I remove the sound?

Yes. Open the Format tab and switch on Remove audio. It makes the file smaller and is handy for clips that only need the picture.

Can I use the compressed video for my website?

Yes. MP4 with H.264 plays almost everywhere. For a fast page, choose a smaller resolution such as 720p.
